12:59:39 From Ulla-Maija Bergroth-Koskinen JYU to Everyone:
1) Write in pieces of paper the thoughts that your mind tells you when you are about the present or when you are in a difficult situation. Another person will be your mind and will read those negative thoughts to you. 2) look around you and think of some objects you see and say "No": that is not good, that has to change, that is unacceptable.... and then "Yes": that is good, that does not have to change, that is acceptable --> with the same object --> then look at the difference of saying yes versus saying no Same with different postures Same with different thoughts 3) pick a feeling or an experience that you have a hard time accepting (start with experiences that are not too difficult) -> during one minute envision one of the following: it is a flower, it is a baby -> how would you hold it, what would you say 4) Values writing. During 10 minutes write about: why is this course important to me? How could this course serve me in my professional career? Students reflect on their values.

13:27:25 From Miia Pirinen JYU to Everyone:
we were talking about how some of these excercises might first appear on esiintymisvarmuus courses and then find their way to uvk (in modified forms)

13:27:40 From Lisa Lahtela JYU to Everyone:
All the courses where the research was done were in Finnish. How do the results change when people are put into second language situations?

13:29:05 From Hanna Brauer JYU to Everyone:
To what extent do you think a teacher can/should open up about their own anxieties? I know some ppl have the stance that you should always be professional and never talk about personal things, but when a student says " I cannot do this because anxiety", I sometimes feel like saying "well, I am also a bit anxious about this class, so I relate, but it's not an excuse and so on" - so what would you recommend there?

13:31:02 From Erja Kilpeläinen JYU to Everyone:
How to keep a balance: to have this topic but not to take too much time or not going too deep? Students might go too deep in those excercises and as a teacher you're not a psychologist and you might not have skills to help the student.

13:32:09 From Lilja Salmi to Everyone:
We discussed that many of the activities require an intimate level of trust within the group, so they might need to be modified a bit to make the students more open to share. For example, the first exercise (write your thoughts on a piece of paper and have your partner say them to you out loud) could be made easier if the whole group wrote some thoughts on small pieces of paper, these would be mixed and then people could take turns reading those thoughts out loud.

13:37:02 From Erja Kilpeläinen JYU to Everyone:
I think it's great if a teacher can show students that they can be a human and an expert at the same time.
